Let's go Exploring

Had breakfast and drove into Baddeck to see where the Inverary Inn was so that we’ll know where to go for the wedding tomorrow. We saw Andrew in the parking lot and he said Mike was out getting tee off times and Julia was setting up spa bookings for the girls, so we did not see them.

We drove to North Sydney to see where we will have to go for the ferry. We also wanted to check out gas stations along the way and see if there are any RV parks nearby. The drive has beautiful views of Bras D’or Lake. We stopped at a beautiful lookout spot on Kelly Mountain which overlooks the lake.  What has occurred to us as we are driving this route and crossing this bridge, is that we will have to drive our motorhome on this route twice – once to get to the ferry and again on the way back – up a VERY steep hill.

We found a park in Little Bras D’or (near N. Sydney) called Arm of Gold. It is a nice clean park, all pull-thru sites with all facilities including WIFI. $34.95 a night for 30AMP. We will probably be staying there before and after our trip to the Rock.

We drove to the dock and saw the ferry we will be taking – the Atlantic Vision. We were hungry and stopped by a little "hole in the wall" restaurant called Robena's for lunch. The inside of the restaurant was homey and clean. They sell homemade bread, cookies and all kinds of pies and desert. One local lady, who had just bought a meat pie and buns, stopped at our table and said “I’ll just tell them I worked over a hot stove all day to make this for them”. she started fanning herself and laughed. We then asked the waitress where we could buy seafood in the area. At first, she said Sobey’s  and Atlantic Superstore . A moment later she returned to our table and told us about the fisherman’s store where the boats come in. It is called “Ballast Ground”. We went to Ballast and they had cooked, live and frozen lobster meat. We decided to buy a pound of the frozenn as we weren't going to have time to have it any time soon. We found the provincial  liquor store (NSLC) and bought some beer and wine. Have to say, we were not impressed with the prices.  Beer was $22 for a 12 pack.

We took a scenic road back to the park. It was a nice drive but not what we expected for a scenic route as there was not much to look at. We had to take a ferry at Little  Narrows, about a one minute ride ($5.25) across a narrow channel. It was interesting as it rode on a metal rope across the water and the ferry was towed back and forth across the little channel by the rope.

We got back around 5:30 PM, relaxed and had a great supper of fresh seafood.
