Rainy Wedding Day

This morning we took a small tour of Baddeck. We stopped in at the local co-op grocery store and picked up a few items; then returned to get ready for the wedding.

We arrived at the Inverary Inn around 3:10 PM. It was pouring rain and the wedding was moved from outside on the lawn on the shores of the lake to a tent, still on the shores of Bras D’or Lake, which is said to be the largest inland sea. It was very wet, cold and miserable weather. Even the floor inside the tent was wet, so many people had wet feet. The Bride and groom were radiant in spite of the weather. The Italian side of the family said it is good luck to rain on the wedding day - so this couple should have a load of good luck to start their married life together.

Shortly after the ceremony finished, a canoe paddled by with two people outfitted in rain gear – and Shauna and Andrew both waived to the passersby. It was quite funny. A fiddler, and keyboard player, played traditional Acadian step dancing music - which was very lively and kept our toes tapping.

There was a long wait in the cool tent until we could move into the reception hall (which thankfully was indoors). We stayed in the tent until 5:30. The wedding party didn't arrive from their picture taking until almost 6:30 p.m. The meal was delicious and much of it was served family style. the waiters brought large platters of food to the table and we passed the dishes around or appointed someone to be the server. We visited with old friends and new, and danced until 12:30 AM.
